Barcelona transport authority ATM confirmed to Mobility Payments it plans to launch open-loop payments sometime in 2027. That would be more than a year after an earlier launch date had come and gone and as many as four years behind the original, ambitious project schedule.
It remains to be seen whether the authority will hit that new launch timeframe in 2027, though the low-cost project is designated as a large “pilot,” supporting single rides only with no transfers. ATM said it could decide later to expand the service to other fare types, as well as transfers.
