Cubic Transportation Systems, moovel North America and Masabi battled this week through their attorneys at a protest hearing over a contentious $40 million-plus contract award for Miami-Dade County’s planned account-based ticketing upgrade.

A county hearing examiner is expected to make a decision next week, which could help determine whether Masabi gets the award. If it does, it would mean Cubic would lose another contract despite being the incumbent fare-system vendor and moovel gets turned away after finishing less than a percentage point behind Masabi. Of course, lawsuits are possible.
