The authority, known as the Greater Wellington Regional Council, will be retrofitting terminals that accept the closed-loop Snapper card with secure-access modules, or SAMs, as part of an open-payments “overlay,” Mobility Payments has learned. These chips would enable the terminals to accept bank cards in a matter of months, say project backers.
