Spain’s Indra has won a large contract for Ireland’s National Transport Authority, beating out Cubic Transportation Systems and Conduent Transportation. Indra is believed to have submitted a price bid much lower than one or both of its rivals for the contract. The loss comes at a difficult time for Cubic, which has already had two rounds of layoffs since August.
NTA had said in tender documents in 2020 that the account-based ticketing project would cost between €260 million (US$278 million) and €440 million for capital expenses. Operational costs would amount to between €800 million and €1.2 billion over the first 10 years. There will be an option for an extension to a second 10 years.
