In another stinging loss for Cubic Transportation Systems, Transport for New South Wales in Sydney has awarded its account-based ticketing back-office contract to Germany-based INIT. The authority also announced it had awarded a separate “Bus Solution” contract, which includes vehicle tracking, to Canada-based Trapeze Group.

The loss of Sydney follows its even larger defeat by Cubic in recent months of its flagship revenue-collection contract with Transport for London. Spain-based Indra beat Cubic for a London deal worth as much as US$1.1 billion. Cubic has been the long-established incumbent vendor in both Sydney and London.
